Running the Marine Corps Marathon this October? There’s no better way to shakeout before the race than connecting with fellow marathoners and running to significant Civil Wars sites in D.C.! Over just 2 miles with Read & Run on the Road organizer Chelsey Stone, you’ll see monuments, buildings, and museums off the beaten path dedicated to memorializing the Civil War. The route ends at the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum for a 30 minute private, staff-led tour.

Excessive sweating is the primary way the body cools itself. But the lack of evaporation from the weight of the gear and humidity caused many to develop skin irritations and severe dehydration. A member of the 19th Massachusetts wrote, “the salty liquid got into the eyes, causing them to burn…and down the sides of the face …”
— American Battlefield Trust

Even better, organizer Chelsey Stone has partnered with SaltStick—dehydration was a major concern for Civil War solider, but luckily for us, 2025 brings lots of new innovation like FastChews.

Tickets available on Eventbrite or Chelsey Stone’s website.
